8620 steel with Carpenter 158 Bolt
Proprietary Nickel Boron product. NiB-X is 40% harder than chrome and has a Rockwell 70 hardness. This is much harder than Nickel Teflon (~Rc45), Hard Chrome and MeloniteTM (Rc55). The process temperature for Melonite and other salt bath nitrocarburizing is 1050°F and too high for many components. The coating has a very slippery feel and is easy to clean. The finish is corrosion resistant.
MSRP $197.99 with bolt and hammer
Nickel Boron
Specs not published
First to use Nickel Boron (NiB) Technology in firearms (Colt SCAR). Suppose to be the highest boron content in the industry which correlates to material hardness, reduced friction and endurance. This company will coat customers components.
MSRP $108.99
Black Nitride Carrier is 8620 steel and 9.3oz.
BlackNitride is a thermal chemical diffusion of nitrogen and carbon into the surface of the steel. Wear resistant, fatigue strength, corrosion resistant, lubricity and cosmetically appealing. Not as expensive a process as hard chrome or nickel based platings
MSRP $299.99
CHROME
TiN (Titanium Nitride)
No published specifications
Hard ceramic coating which reduced galling in components. It is wear resistant, inert, lubricious and reduces friction. Used on cutting tools due to its inherent hardness.
MSRP $199.00 with bolt
Chameleon PVD
No published specifications.
PVD (Physical Vapor Deposition) Titanium Ion Plating which is Corrosion resistant, wear resistance, sliding friction, general durability and cosmetically pleasing. The Chameleon finish give a somewhat of a case-hardened steel appearance.
MSRP $299.00 with bolt
Manganese Phosphate Carrier
8620 steel and bolt Carpenter 158
Mil-Spec friction reducing, corrosion resistant, anti-galling coating also known as Parkerizing. Reduces wear during metal to metal contact. Not so easy to clean as many other finishes. Can be smooth or course. Very inexpensive process compared to others. This finish has more friction and require more lubricant than others.
(MPI and Proof Tested)
MSRP $219.99 with bolt
Nickel Teflon
Electroless Nickel plating (NP3). Softer than Nickel Boron. Self-lubricating, abrasion resistant, easy to clean, longer firing periods dry, service life extends, no corrosion migration and easy to replate.
Obsidian is Black Nickel Teflon
MSRP $245.00
