History of Colt External Piston Rifles

This is a first of its kind on the development of the Colt external piston rifles from 1968 to present. This is an inside look at the politics, design and evolution of these rather rare Colt rifles. The story is told from my first hand experience while working at Colt during this time period. You see how the projects were made through different generations of Colt leadership. It is a detailed look at the mechanical features of all these rifles starting with the Model 703 to the SCAR Type-C, to the LE1020 to the current production LE6940P/APC. It is a truly fascinating story of mismanagement bringing a rifle to market to late in the game for it to be taken seriously over competition with more than a decade of combat service.
